Questions for N64Digital HDMI Mod Kits

What kind of installation ways should I choose?

If you are skill with soldering, you can choose to connect the N64 console and the mod kits by soldering with the flex cable. If soldering flex cable is difficult for you, you can connect the HDMI PCB to N64 motherboard by wires. DO NOT  connect the digital mod with the console using  the 2 ways at the same time.

Guides for Flex Cable Connecting N64Digital HDMI Kits

Soldering the FPC Cable.

  • Align the FPC flex cable to pin6.
  • Solder the flex cable to connect with the pins one by one.

Finished Soldering.

  •  Use a multimeter to confirm there is no continuity between adjacent pins.If a direct short is found, clear the bridge and check again.

Check All the Connector Socket.

  • Make sure the connector is free from any particals or other contamination.

It sometimes helps to use some IPA inside the connector and reinsert the flex a couple of times to dislodge them.

  • Make sure the flex cable is fully inserted and perpendicular to the connector before closing the locking tab. Pay extra attention that the flex cable is properly aligned and centered when inserting. (There are guides inside the connector, which are more narrow than the space between the locking tab)

Active the OSD Menu.

  • Insert game cart, mini hdmi cable, jumper pak, and controller into port 1. Double check jumper pak is correctly oriented. Verify there is no short between 5V and GND before moving on.
  • Insert N64 power supply then power on the console. Do not leave the console powered on for more than 1 minutes since the heatsink is not installed. Verify you get an image on the screen, press SELECT + A+ B at the same time for 1 second then release the buttons to active the OSD menu. Confirm everything works, including sound.

After Testing.

  • Remove the game cart, power supply, controller, and jumper pak.

If you do not get video and/or audio, verify the audio/video work using a composite video cable + analog audio.

  • Composite doesn't work - one of two things is wrong. Bridges on the flex cable or a poor

connection with the jumper pak / game cartridge.

  • Composite does work - then the issue is related to mini hdmi to hdmi adapters or the HDMI cable line. Or try another TV just to rule out any issues.
  • DO NOT continue on until video and audio are working properly.

Guides for Wires Connecting N64Digital HDMI Kits

Four different DAC chips of N64 console mainboard.
For this guide, AVDC-NUS is the same as MAV-NUS.

There are four different DAC chips of N64 console mainboard. Pin listings are refer to the picture.

For this guide, AVDC-NUS is the same as MAV-NUS.

(Note- Using this method, HDMI signal is weaker than welded ribbon cables.)

The DENC-NUS, MAV-NUS, and AVDC-NUS are also the same installation method. Just the pins arrangement are different.

Connect the D0,D1,D2,D3,D4,D5,D6, GND,3V3,CLK,Dsync,IC6,IC7,IC10,CON,5V of the HDMI PCB board to the N64 motherboard.

Note: The RC, RST and T don’t need to be connected.
